Triangle Economic Club Executive Director Joe Owens announced today that the non-profit group has created a humorous ice-storm survivor T-Shirt which will be sold with net proceeds benefiting the Research Triangle Community of the Red Cross (Triangle, Central, and Orange County Chapters).
The T-Shirt features a slogan which reads “I Survived the Carolina Ice Storm of ‘02”. On the back the words “No Heat, No Lights, No Problem” speak to the spirit of Carolina residents who pulled together with neighbors, family and friends to survive the ordeal.
“We wanted to do something a little lighthearted but at the same time would address the very serious challenge we face here in the Triangle and across the state. We hope that people will buy a shirt or two for themselves, or as holiday gifts for friends and family members”, said TEC executive director, Joe Owens.
Your support will help your local Red Cross Chapters in the Triangle assist more than 1,000 residents left homeless due to fires and other disasters each year.
Although the Economic Club does not expect T-Shirt sales to come close to addressing the problem, it hopes that the shirts will remind people to make a contribution to their local Red Cross Chapter this holiday season. The Economic Club has reached out to local merchants for support and sale of the shirts and welcomes the participation of any location willing to help.
To order a T-shirt by mail, send a check or money order for $12.50 (tax included) (plus $2.50 shipping & handling) and their size (small to XL) to: Ice-Aid T-Shirt, PO Box 3814, Durham NC 27702-3814.
The Triangle Economic Club is a non-profit, non-partisan organization dedicated to the creation and expression of enlightened public opinion on the important economic and social issues of the day.
